Why are paragraph symbols appearing in Outlook? Retrieve Deleted i

I've tried everything and cant clear the paragraph symbol when I'm typing an
email.
I've reset my outlook default and now lost all my contacts as well as emails!
Also is there a way I can get my emails and contacts back? All I did was
click on Tools/Detect and Repair. Outlook didnt even warn me about losing all
my information!
