why are my documents being saved as Word Pad

My operating system is XP. I have MSW2000 installed. When I first began
saving docs. they were saved as MSW docs. Now all my docs. are being saved
as WordPad? any suggestions on how to change that back so that my docs are
saved as MSW docs.
