Why am I not able to type into the excel spreadsheet?

I am trying to type into a spreadsheet, but for some odd reason it doesnt work.
 
Have you activated your copy of Excel? What happens if you click on Help |
Activate Product? Perhaps you have a trial version of Excel that has
expired?
