White Screen appears before and during teh Log-on (XP)

Whenever I start or boot my PC. the screen appears white in color. I am
unable to do anything; however, in the background teh system is active.
This is because unknowingly i clicked on one of the apllication and it
started in the background.
It is as if a white acreen is in front of my TFT screen. I have
Windowns XP. HP model. Can anyone help me in this??????
 
i have a couple of tweaking freewares and have seen but not used the option
to change the backgrounds for the welcome screen and other ones that are
changiable..... Search for freewares on tweakers for win xp......
