New to this forum and looking for help. I am having trouble with my labtop
which is now on start up flickering on start up. When the desktop finally can
be seen, before all applications have been loaded, then screen starts to
change color (like bleacing effect) goes from white to black and locks up.
After enough time has passed for the screen saver to pop up, the desktop will
re-appear briefly then the same problem occurs. Virus, bad hardware?

Thank you for your input and help in advance.

How old is this machine? if it is still under warranty I would have it
repaired a.s.a.p.
From what you write it sounds as if the laptop itself is still running
normally under the dead screen, you could confirm this by attaching an
external monitor to be sure.
On your laptop's keyboard is a 'Fn' key you can press and on the Function
Key row (F1, F2, etc.) you'll find that one of the Function Keys has a
secondary labeling resembling a small monitor icon; Fn+Monitor key will
help toggle on/off/both laptop/external display function. Toggle may take
a second or two on some machines.

This could either be a display adapter faillure, or a backlight inverter
faillure, both being hardware issues you would have to contact your
vendor for to have it repaired/replaced.
I'm guessing for the latter, as it sounds like the display will power up,
then fail, indicating a possible inverter issue (thermal or shortout).
If the laptop is out of warranty i'd ask for a price before agreeing to
any repairs, as the repair bill could easily run up to the price of a new
laptop nowadays!.

It certainly sounds like a hardware issue to me.
