Rick

I'm trying to bring my old laptop up to date for my granddaughter and
realized I do not have SP2 or 3 on it. I looked at the downloads available
and could not determine the propoer SP2 to use. Thanks in advance. Rick

If your Xp is SP1 (check this by going to the "System" control panel (right-click on
"My Computer and choose "Properties"") it should be displayed near to the top under
"System") then you can go straight ahead and install SP3 :

Windows XP Service Pack 3 Network Installation Package for IT Professionals and
Developers
http://www.microsoft.com/downloadS/...A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

You can download the entire SP3 installation exe by clicking on the link above to go
to the "Download Details" page, or you can burn a cd-rom by downloading the ISO file
version of SP3 below :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&displaylang=en

(You can double-check the system requirements on either downlod page).

However, if you have one of the more rare versions of XP that has NO service packs,
then you WILL have to install SP1 before SP3

If needed, go to the SP1 download page by clicking on the link below :

*NB Again - there is NO NEED to install SP2 if you have a minimum of Win XP SP1
installed.

Just go right ahead and install SP3 (minimum requirement SP1 or above).

It's ONLY if you have NO SP number that you will have to install SP1 first before
installing SP3 - either way - you can skip SP2!

Don't take my word for this, double check it by going to the relevant download page
(previous post) and look up the "System Requirements"...

Careful with SP3, as it is the least supported SP out there by
manufactures. I can't even get MS' own EWF to work correctly with SP3.

There should only be one ; if you Google "sp2 for xp pro" ( without
quotes) you should get the right one . If you have sp1 on the system ,
google for sp3 instead .
