which program is using com1

Hi,

I have a win XP SP2 machine, and I have a program that want's to use com1.
But I recieve an error that com1 is already used. I have stopped some
programs and some services, but the same error message.
How can I find out which program is using com1 ?

Get Sysinternals ProcessExplorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Go to 'Find'->'Find Handle' and enter
serial1
and click 'Search'.

The COM1 and COM3 Using the same IRQ4 opposite COM2 and COM4 using IRQ3.
Youmay have The Mouse or the Modem set to use this Port, try to assign the
new program anew Port through the Contral Panel.
But if you have IRQ sharing for a serial card that different.

Correction for the archives...
COM1 is usually linked to \device\serial0, COM2 to serial1
and so on. But there is no warrenty, so just search for
serial.

Thanks, this helps a lot.
I used ProcessExplorer to find out it was wcescomm (ActiveSync)
taking up COM1 on my PC.
