hello all,
I am buying a new PC and have got this in mind, its standard card is the Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS 256mb PCE-E, im told it is quite good and will be getting two of the same card to support SLI/CrossFire. which this card supports, but im not sure if i should go that extra mile and spend a bit more and buy the 8800GS 320mb, which supports direct X10.

will the standard 7900 be able to run games like oblivion, if so with what detail and anti-aliasing will be recommended? overall is this PC good and a wise choice for me, being on a budget, and sshould i go for the 7900 or the 8800?

thanks
:)
please reply if you can help :)

Hi xfireshadow, welcome to the forum
happywave.gif

I'm in a rush, so can't comment too much until I look a little deeper into the spec, and also others here are way better to comment on gaming thingies, but there is one thing stands out straight away:

The stock Antec 420w power supply is not going to be that great, especially if you are gonna be running 2 cards in SLi - look to get a better branded one around 5-600w - the enermax and tagans there would be better :thumb:

Also what is your budget?

I also need to have a look into that motherboard too, its not one I'm familiar with and its the heart of your machine ;)

The MB is good to go ... ;)

I can play Oblivion & Stalker on my lowly 7600GT (on a lesser pc) so I would assume a 7900GS would be fine, actually recommended for Stalker, but I'm happy ... dunno how much detail you will be able to push out, but enough I'm sure.

You should be fine with the 7900 if you are not looking for extreme quality.

Just as a guideline, an 8800gts will pull just under double the fps of a 7900gs, depending on what game you are on. :)
