What make and model is your motherboard? 586VIA brings nothing up on
Google.

My guess is that 586 = Pentium 1 class PC and VIA refers to a Cyrix
processor. VERY old if I'm correct.

Believe you put it backwards, and, out of bounds. The motherboard's bios
must support the hard drive, not the other way around. So, the key to the
question is the bios support. 586 is a general/non-specific term for cpu
architecture. This generally means in the time period for Pentium/Pentium
II cpus for a general bios support reference for hard drive capacity
recognition.
