Which HDD is "coolest"?

Talking about those 7200 rpm harddrives, the faster the hotter
I heard my friend that WD 120Gb HDD is burning hot even with the addition of
HD fan, while a Seagate one is probably better.

Is there any site or test that compare the temperature of those HDDs?

WDs run no hotter than Maxtors. It's the Seagates that run hottest,
probably because of their enclosed circuit boards.

27GB Maxtor (4 platters): 42C
120GB WD (2 platters): 42C
120GB WD (3 platters): 42C
80GB Seagate (3? platters): 46C

All 7200 RPM, all idled for over an hour a few inches above a table,
upside down, horizontally, air temp. about 25C. Measurements taken at
bottom screw holes and averaged but are probably no more accurate than
1C because even slight air currents caused noticeable changes.
