Seagate HDD became my nightmare!

I have one 200 GB Seagate 7200 rpm and one 60 GB. Two weeks ago
everything was OK. Then one day my computer started to slow down and
in 1-2 days it started to freeze completely. I found out that it was
because of 200 GB HDD and I made the 60 GB - master and used the 200
GB for storage. But last weekend the problem started again when I
used 200 GB HDD to store a prgram and install it on that one..

When it is connected from IDE or as an external HD, as soon as any
action about it is done (eg. when "My computer" is double
clicked to see it) , it is completely freezing all the activity of
the Windows XP Proffesional. When it is connected as an external HD,
I have the chance to turn its power off. Only after that computer
starts acting normal. My questions are:

1-Why?
2-Is there a chance that I rescue the data?
3-How will I format it? (Since I can not even see it as a drive...)

Thanks in advance for all replies....

go to the Seagate site, and d\load the drive test tools
(they do a CD).
Leave Just the big drive connected, and boot with the test CD.
Run test\s on the drive.
