Which DNS entry at LAN interface?

Hi.

Win2000 SP3 Workstation - The computer operates as gateway of my LAN.

I activated ICS with the "Dial-up Connection". Hence, the IP address of
the interface as looked from the LAN is 192.168.0.1. When looking at the
properties of the LAN interface ("Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
properties), this is confirmed. But what about the DNS entries? Should I
put the DNS severs of my provider there or should "Preferred DNS server"
be filled with 192.168.0.1.

Many thanks!

If you have a DNS server running on 192.168.0.1, point all other local
computers to it for local name resolution, and set it to forward to your
ISP's DNS servers. All non-local addresses will be resolved there.

If you have no local DNS server, use the ISP's entries.

Ok. Done!

However I'm wondering in which situtation these 2 DNS entries are used,
since the "normal" name resolution takes place via the DNS server
entries of the PPPoE adapter.

Ethernet adapter LOCAL_NETWORK:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100
PCI TX NIC
(3C905B-TX)
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : (deleted)
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.24.194.15 (***)
212.24.192.15 (***)

PPP adapter MyDSL:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : (deleted)
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : (deleted)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : (deleted)
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 212.24.194.15
212.24.192.15
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

The DNS entries marked (***) are the ones you are talking about. When
are they used? Normally the ones from MyDSL are used.
