VPN not delivering what I expect

P

I am trying to set up my first VPN. Here are the details:
- VPN Host: A Win2000 Workstation
- VPN Clinet: A Win2000 Server
- IP addressing details: See below
- Use Default Gateway on the remote network: Unticked

I can start the VPN with no trouble at all. However, when
it is active then I cannot do anything with it. I expected to
be able to access shares on the host PC but I can't. It is as
if the host PC did not exist - I cannot even ping it.

Where did I go wrong?

Thanks for your reply. I owe you an apology: My initial post was
terrible - it twice quoted the output from ipconfig.exe from the
same machine, hence the identical addresses. Must have been
too late in the night!

The addresses were actually in different subnets:
Host=192.168.44.1
Client=192.168.0.1

After much experimenting I found that I could make a proper
connection by specifying a fixed IP address for the VPN connection
and by forcing the VPN's DNS address to the same address
as used by the NIC. Here are the two outputs again in case
you're interested. Until I forced manual addresses, the PPP
addresses marked thus *** used to be identical.

Thanks for your reply. I owe you an apology: My initial post was
terrible - it twice quoted the output from ipconfig.exe from the
same machine, hence the identical addresses. Must have been
too late in the night!

The addresses were actually in different subnets:
Host=192.168.44.1
Client=192.168.0.1

I am trying to set up my first VPN. Here are the details:
- VPN Host: A Win2000 Workstation
- VPN Clinet: A Win2000 Server
- IP addressing details: See below
- Use Default Gateway on the remote network: Unticked

I can start the VPN with no trouble at all. However, when
it is active then I cannot do anything with it. I expected to
be able to access shares on the host PC but I can't. It is as
if the host PC did not exist - I cannot even ping it.

Where did I go wrong?
