Which connection type is faster ??

I have cable broadband service and the cable modem can
connect either by USB 2.0 port or thru my ethernet card.
Is the on-line speed generally faster using one as
opposed to the other ??

Thanks in advance ....

The online speed will likely be no different comparing USB and Ethernet
unless you have a really fast cable account - 12mbps or more.

There is a lot of free broadband tests in the Internet, so you can get the
figures and compare. If this is a residence service: mostly all the cable
and xDSL modems have 10Mbps half-duplex Ethernet port, so theoretically
USB2.0 connection between the computer and the modem should run faster. The
real bottleneck is either the TV or telephone cable itself.

Both connection types are much faster than the fastest available cable
modem, so you won't see any difference between them.

Ethernet has been around for decades, while USB 2.0 is recent. I'd
expect an Ethernet connection to be more reliable.
