Which Antyvirus Software?

A

Anton Ratchev

Hi,
I have two computers:
Desktop and laptop sharing broadband Internet Connection
with a Belkin F5D7230-4 wireless DSL/Cable router.

My desktop is connected to the router by cable and the
laptop has wireless connection to the router.

Both computers have Windows XP Professional installed.

Currently I have no antivirus (AV) or firewall software
installed on both computers. I was using the router
firewall, but it did not perform very well in my opinion
and now it is disabled.

My question is what is the best approach to protect my
two computers after the installation of SP2?

Which AV software in combination with the SP2 firewall,
is a good choice?

When I should install the AV software before, or after
updating to SP2?

Thanks, Anton

You might want to enable hardware firewall anyway. Even if it's not working
very well, it's first line of defense. I always recommend using both:
software and hardware firewall.

As for the AV software, I'd recommend either McAfee or Norton Antivirus.
They both update their definitions often, and both of them work very good.

It doesn't really matter if you install SP2 first or the AV, it should work
either way.
