AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com) is a good antivirus, no charge. Most
others will work, as well. Just make sure to get the latest version and
check for Vista compatibility.

As far as the recycle bin, right click the desktop, go to personalize, and
on the left pane click "Change desktop icons". You can re-check the recycle
bin and it should appear on the desktop again.

Free versions of AVG (www.free.grisoft.com) or Avast (www.avast.com)

I use Norton Internet Security 2007 and it works very fast, very well. No
issues at all (there was an update from the internet do to after installing
though, which was automatic).

So far, NIS 2007 has stopped many tracking cookies (which Windows Onecare
didn't even know about) and several viruses, one of high alert.

NIS seems pretty good for performance too.

Norton introduces many more problems than if fixes. Norton is bloated,
memory hungry, slows down your system. Run - don't walk from Symantec
products.

It has less problems than the ms onecare(send me more money for nothing)
software. Make sure that what you get really works with vista - WOW, this
doesn't work either..

thank you all for your experiences!

i'm using trial version norton internet security 2007, factory installed by
dell (even though i selected no antivirus software when i ordered machine)

it's working fine.

i hear negative experiences with prior norton users. my thoughts were that
when the norton expires, uninstall the norton INS 2007, & install another AV
program. i'll use windows firewall. i believe the phishing filter & junk
mail filters are windows. when prompted, the advisory boxes don't appear to
be norton advisory boxes, even though their filters are on.

my concerns are when norton is uninstalled, i might have problems with
phishing, fire wall, etc.

my other thoughts are to leave as is. i will check into nod32. i don't mind
paying for AV program. prefer the disk.

any further good/bad experiences & recommendations greatly appreciated.

thank you! len kiesling

Dustin replied with how to restore the Recycle bin icon to the desktop. It
was deleted because when you went to empty it you clicked on Delete, instead
of Empty Recycle Bin.

McAfee also is causing big problems for Windows Mail users.

Daniel i'm inclined to agree with Zim regarding Norton. Personally I
wouldn't touch Norton with a barge pole.

Mikeb, I agree with Zim as far a Norton is concerned, but i also agree with
you regarding OneCare. I have used OneCare extensively during the beta test
and i found it extremely slow and not as good as i expected. Suffice to say,
it is no longer on my system.
