Back again now ready to put my personal files and settings on the second
partition. What is the best way to do it , where do I split it, at what
level . What is the most common way to do it. Do I move the Document and
setting folder or the next step down only my personal folder and all what is
inside. I hope it is not too confusing

BTW I need only a data partition , I won't install WIN 98 anymore as I want
before. What do
most expert do.
Do they keep OS and program files on one partition and the rest on the
other.
As I understand one would save an ISO image of the first partition to be
safe and a back up of the second which can be done on a regular basis.
Am I right or there is better way. Just learning here

I think you are asking where/what to move into a newly made partition?
If so, usually your Windows is installed on C; (main) drive and the
other (d:?) is the partition?
The "split" (if you mean the size) is up to you. I have a 200gb
partitioned (split) at 50%. I use the d: partition
for storage. If you attempt to move c:\program files into d: you wil
damage any running programs.
I hope this is making sense as I am getting a bit cofused myself:-)
You have obviously used a 3rd party partitioning software. There is a
percentage option where you can set the size.
Either in numbers or percent. Repost with more info or e-mail typing
"Partition" in "subject" box.

FWIW I use two partitions on my machines, OS and Programs on C:,
D: is for data files and backups.
[You can move things like the OE email store folder to
D: for backup purposes].
Image C: drive and backup D:\*.* to suite your
comfort zone/needs.

sorry for the confusion
Yes I want to put my personnal things on the partition d in this case but I
am a bit confused what should I send to it . Is it from document and setting
under or the next lower step my personal folder and leave the document and
setting with windows. But I had major trouble with my running WINDOWS XP
PRO and had to reinstall everything again quite a long process specially all
the programs and settings. What is the best way to do it that have been
tested for many.

so if I understand correctly I can moved from documents and settings over +
my outlook folder. I thought it was already in documents and settings

Using a second partition on a HDD for backup purposes borders
on being ludicrous. I am not a big fan of putting more then one
partition on a HDD anyway. A second HDD would be better,
but an external HDD would be the best. I use a FAT32 for my
back ups so that they can be utilized on more than one OS. This
does have a 4GB file size limitation.
Backup with a quality backup application. (there are a few)
a) Pristine xp install with all drivers and updates. b) with all
applications installed. c) When applications are installed/uninstalled
d) address book(date.csv), desktop, favorites, inventory, msmoney,
OEaccounts, OEfolders.
good luck

sorry but I forgot to mention that I would back up on an other computer or
CDs. Thanks for the precision
