The favorites folder used to be in the windows directory (in win98). In win
xp I haven't been able to find it.

Was wondering where it is?

Thanks.

Favorites are located at the follow path within WinXP. Replace "XXX" with
your profile name.

C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Favorites

Previous replies told you the location. If you want to copy same, open IE
and use the File/export function to save as "bookmark.htm" to the location
of your choice. Location of favorites folder knowledge is not a requirement
for exporting. Recover using IE's file/import function. Also works in
versions of IE compatible with 98. And, if you're thinking the newer IE
version may have trouble with the older IE version exported file, no, they
are quite compatible.

That folder and others like it (cookies, for example) are in the user
profile folders on both XP and Vista.

On XP, you'll find them under
c:\documents and settings\<username>\

On Vista, they are under
c:\users\<username>\

However, you may very well find that these folders are hidden by default, so
you have to open an Explorer window, go to Tools, Folder Options, View, and
select things like Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Also, if you use things like the Windows Address Book and Outlook Express or
Outlook, your address books and mail files are also very helpfully stored in
hidden folders. For backup purposes, you'll want to learn where those
files are stored so that you can actually back them up.
