Hello All
Im new here and ive had this problem for quite a while and not managed to
solve it via my own means. The problem is that the icons that should be in
'my network places' appear in 'my computer', im running windows XP, without
the router allowing for both my laptop and my other computer to see each
other, its just the computer that is attached to the router wont allow for
the icons to be placed in the appropriate area.

I believe this to be a problem of the computer settings more than the router
becuase I had a access point for a short time and the symptoms were the same
too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,

Can you post (publish) a screenshot? Meanwhile, try this:

Click Start, Run and type:

shell:nethood

Does the Nethood folder open?

Dan,

I don't see anything odd in the screenshots. My Computer display looks normal. Only thing is that there is a section named "Unspecified" in the My Network Places window. Is this what you're talking about?

Yes the items that are unspecified are specified in my computer, Joannides
documents and the shared folder should be in my network places, but for some
reason have positioned themselves there, I dont think it has anything to do
with my network hardware as it has been the same through a access point and a
router.

Just very confused by it now,

Thanks

Dan

Dan,

The My Computer display is fine. The link to Shared Documents / User's Documents is shown by default. However, you can hide them if you want using TweakUI.

cant access the network from the particuler computer and neither can any of
the other clients that being my laptop and another computer, both of which
can see and interact with each other but not with the particuler computer
