My Pictures gone

O

Old Geaser

When I click Start and the area at the top has My Documents, My Computer,
the My Pictures is gone. I use to click My Pictures and the pictures would
show. Now nothing. I can find them in My Documents. Only when opened it
shows icons for each picture. How do I get My Pictures back to the Start
location? Thanks

Click Start, Run, type:

regsvr32 mydocs.dll (Press Enter)

Restart the machine and they might be back.

If not, go to My Documents, click and drag My Pictures to that area and
release. Hover over the Start button and that menu will open. To
change the display type, click the "View" icon at the top, ad select the
view you prefer.

Right click on the taskbar and choose properties.
In the Taskbar and Start Menu properties dialog that opens, click on the
Start Menu tab.
Click the Customize button and then in the window that opens click on
the Advanced tab.
Scroll down the list in the box until you find My Pictures and put a
tick next to "Display as a link".

Click OK and then OK again.

Elmo,

The regsrv32 did not bring back My Pictures. It did say My Docs.dll
Succeeded. I was not sure what you meant by drag to "That Area". Anyway
I did change all icons in My Documents/My Pictures to Thumbnails and I now
can see what the picture is. Thanks a lot,

Bert

Sounds like those pictures are there all the time. You just can't view them
because your folder View is incorrect.

I will try again. First one never got here. My XP must have something that
fell thru the cracks. I did as you instructed. The "Display as a link" Was
already checked. I checked it again and My Pictures are still not where
they should be. I can view the pictures by checking My Documents, then My
Pictures. Just wondering why My Pictures are not along with My Music etc.
Maybe one of the updates did something to it. Anyway, I now have all
pictures in thumbnail view, so I can see what the picture is. Thanks for
the help.

"That area" is the area you spoke of where the "My Pictures" shortcut
disappeared.

A last-ditch attempt at getting the 'My Pictures' link on your 'Start
Menu' :

In 'Control Panel' > 'Taskbar and Start Menu' (or right-click on the
'Start Menu' and choose 'Properties') change your 'Start Menu' type to
'Classic' for a couple of boots - then change it back.

Tim,

That did not do anything. I also noticed the "My Music" is missing. I never
did use my music anyway. As long as I can view my pictures by My
Documents/My Pictures, I think I will let everything else go. Who knows,
maybe XP will crash and I can reinstall again. Thanks for the offer and hope
all is well with you. Thanks

ju.c

Restore the "My Pictures" folder.

Copy and paste this line into the Run Box:
%WinDir%\system32\rundll32.exe mydocs.dll,PerUserInit

Sorry it didn't work.

If "ju.c" suggestion (below) does not work, if it's really bothering
you - I am sure that if you created a new user profile (Control Panel >
Users Accounts > Create a new account) then the 'Start Menu' would be
just fine again in that.

Sorry again, that I have nothing better.
