Where does Outlook 07 store POP3 email account info

T

Tim L. Pearson

Outlook 03 stored email account information in the registry. I have made
two different installations of Outlook 07--one as an upgrade from Outlook 03
on an XP system and one as a new installation on a Vista RTM installation.
The upgrade migrated the account to 07 and took the account information out
of the registry. When I add a new account in the new installation, the
information isn't stored in the registry. I imagine it's in an XML file
somewhere, but I've looked at both in the Local and Roaming directories.
Anyone know where is resides?

Thanks!

Outlook 2007 stores account information in exactly the same place in the registry as Outlook 2003. You are looking under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles, right?

Thanks Sue for responding so quickly. Actually, I was referring to the
information stored in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\OMI Account
Manager\Accounts. That is the area of the registry that disappears with
Outlook 2007.

Let me explain why I am asking this question, and maybe you'll know how to
solve my problem or point me in a direction that I can find a solution.

I use MSN as one of my email accounts. Maybe I'm a little "old-school", but
I'm not really fond of HTTP email servers. MSN still sort of supports POP3
using SPA. When I attempt to add my MSN account/server information exactly
as it should be (works perfectly in OL03), it doesn't work in OL07.
However, when I took a working OL03 installation and upgrade it to OL07, the
account still works. What I was hoping to do is find where OL07 now stores
the account information so I can either copy it or replicate the data so
that I can just set up the account on a computer that I have cleanly
installed Office 2007, instead of having to uninstall 2007, install 2003,
then re-install 2007.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

That registry value actually goes back to Outlook 2000, IIRC. Outlook 2003 doesn't use it either, as far as I can tell. Outlook 2003 account information is in the registry key I gave earlier.
