It was always part of Office with versions I previously used. Check your
Office CD.

Interestingly, I don't see it available in Office 2003.

In Word 2002, from menu, click Insert - Object. Equation Editor is
found in the list that appears.

From the experience that I have had using either word 2000 or word 2002 I
have found that Equation Editor does not install automatically when
installing your Word program. You need to use the install cd and check the
box needed to install Equation Editor. If I remember correctly, it is down
near the bottom of choices in the utilities file.

It won't be there unless he installed it. It's not installed by
default. Best way is to insert his Word 2002 or Office CD and select
install additional components. Select the equation editor.

Its there on my copy - in the Office Tools section
And to the question that was perhaps implied - I don't think it is
available other than as part of a complete Office installation CD

Cheers. I thought I told the install program to "install everything",
but evidently it did not. I went back and specifically selected it in
the Office Tools section and this time went in. Mystery. Thanks!

The Equation Editor in Office is a subset of the professional program by MathType. http://www.mathtype.com/en/products/mathtype/

By default, it is not installed with Office XP until you use it. Open a
document with an equation (from Equation Editior obviously) and double-click
it. This will then install the equation editor from your Office CD/install
point.
