where do I find old emails that disappeared (auto archived maybe)

I use Outlook/Office 03 for email. The inbox for the alternate user profile
on my computer just ate all the old emails in the inbox. It was not nearly
overloaded enough to crash the system. Auto archive may be a culprit but I
cannot find any items in the archive files. We have no sub folders in the
archives (i know, I should, I will next time) so the items are not there...
any suggestions on where the old inbox contents went?

Perhaps theres a specific View set?
