Where did outlook go?

Originally using office 2003 I downloaded office 2007 beta.

I was looking through the various options in outlook and got a message that
the option wasn't available and I needed to download the microsoft desktop
search tool, which I did.
I rebooted as instructed and outlook had disappeared! I searched my hard
drive but to no avail. I cannot go back to outlook 2003 as i get an error
messege that the shortcut doesn't work (even if I try and launch it using the
exe file.
What's gone wrong?

When you installed Outlook 2007, Outlook 2003 was removed. Two Outlooks
never could and can't coexist.
Try running Office Diagnostics: Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office,
Microsoft Office Tools
Does that give you access back to Outlook 2007? If not, check the Office
2007 setup program (via Add/Remove Programs) to see if Outlook is still
installed or reinstall it.

Hi Patrick,

I tried diagnostics - that said all was fine, I tried repair but all that
did was re-install everything bar Outlook. Office 2003 was still showing in
add+remove programs so I tried repair and reinstall but just got a message
that installation had had a critical failure (or something like that) and so
I ran uninstall to get rid of Odffice 2003.

As in - on reboot there was no sign of outlook 2007 - there were left over
shortcuts for outlook 2003 (which obviously didn't work) and an icon for the
outlook.exe (which also didn't work).

Repair and diagnostics didn't help and search didn't find it either

So yes its disappeared!

did you search for Outlook.exe? do any of the other office apps work?

All other applications worked ok. The onlu outlook.exe found was in the
office 11 folder this didn't work (I presume that this was because of the
installation of office 2007?).

A search of my c drive also failed to find outlook.

I'm going to try and reinstall office 2007 tommorrow, I have uninstalled
office 2007 and 2003 and run a registry cleaner (CCleaner) so I should have
removed all traces.

Right - now this is where it gets like a scence from the x files!

So to recap - I uninstalled office 07, I ran a regcleaner, I deleted the
left over program folder. I uninstalled office 03, I ran an reg cleaner i
deleted the program folder.

Then I ran setup on office 07 - all installed fine. Opened outlook...... All
my mail was there, all my contacts and my calendar. All is working fine.

Now I'm no novice on computers - I've seen pcs do some strange things but
this beats all - its like bobby coming out of the shower in dallas!

Why does this cause consternation? The registry cleaner obviously ignores
the section of the registry containing the mail profile. It's not in the
Software\Microsoft\Office tree, it's in the Software\Microsoft\Windows tree.

I am having the same problem, I lost my Outlook 2007 calendar. I have
uninstalled the whole office suite, reinstalled and everything is exactly the
same as before except I do not have Calendar. So, what is the answer? I get
calendar folders in my mail, they pop up every time you sign in to mail. I
get an error message about no personal calendar file.

Reinstalling won't help with configuration issues or data corruption.
Do you have a calendar when you switch to the Calendar or Folder List
Navigation? Right now you are probably in the Mail Navigation.
If the folder is missing start Outlook with the /resetfolders switch

Start-> Run; outlook.exe /resetfolders

Thank you for the help, I tried it and when outlook tried to open, it gave me
an error message that states that outlook cannot open those files, only mail
and personal files. Can you think of anything else???
