I finally install XP and half of my RAM is gone.... I have 264meg in the
slots and only 128 meg shows up in the system info?

What happened?

Hi,

This is a bug in System Info. Right click on My Computer and select
Properties.
On the General Tab look to the bottom under "Computer:" for the
correct amount of ram installed.

That is where I am seeing the data ( system info )
Every place that I look in XP pro shows the RAM as 128 ... it still shows up
as 264 in the bios bootup though... how do I make windows see the other stick
of RAM

Hi,

I suggested you look a System Properties, not System Info.
To view System Info go to Start - Run and type MSINFO32 then press
enter.

Check here to see if some if the RAM is being restricted.
Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG.
Go to the BOOT.INI tab and click on the Advanced Options button.
Look at the /MAXMEM checkbox and make sure it is not checked.
If it is unchecked temporally check it see what it show in the box to
the right and report back.

Not to be picky but how do you have 264 MB of ram in a system? You should
have either 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, 1024 MB(1GB), etc. If the bios actually
does show this, something is obviously wrong with the system.

Has one of your memory cards become dislodged? Turn off system, ground
yourself to the case and unplug the computer. Reseat the memory chips and
then plug in again and turn on. Did this correct the problem?

Well my first step is I need to learn how to proofread what I type... lol

256 meg ... lol

It could be that 128mb's are being asigned to the onboard video card.
Does the system have an onboard video card that uses RAM from the
motherboard?

Go to Start - Run and type dxdiag then press enter.
On the System tab look at Memory: under System Information.
Then on the Display Tab look at Approx. Total Memory.

Download and run Aida32.

Expand Motherboard and click on Memory.
What is the total Memory?

Then in Chipset:
Look for a reference to Integrated Graphics Controller. Is it 128?
And Graphics Frame Buffer Size. Is it also 128?

Use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the BOOT.INI tab.

Click on the Advanced Options button and make certain that the
checkbox for the /MAXMEM= line is clear and that there is no value in
the data box for that line.

Click on Apply and OK as needed to exit. If you made a change reboot
the computer to put that change into effect.

Good luck
