RAM problems

My daughter has a AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.00GHz, 128 MB Computer. I
thought it unusual that a new 2 Gig processor with XP would come with
128 MB RAM. It has always ran too slow for that size processor. I bought
a 256 RAM and put it in the extra slot. When I started the computer, it
would boot up to the desktop (much faster) and shut back down to restart
again and just kept doing that by itself. I took the 128 MG RAM out,
leaving the 256 but it kept doing the same thing. I ended up putting the
128 back in. But the 128 is just too slow.

How can I find out how much more RAM I can use - or what else might be
the problem? I need more RAM badly. My other computer is a 1 Gig with
240 RAM. It's faster than her 2 Gig.

Your problem is probably the ram speed. Tkae the 128 stick of memory out and
bring it to were you are buying ram at. (preforably not bestbuy- try to
use a repair shop) Have the technician match ram that runs at the same
speed. The problems you have described seem to hapen when one stick runs
faster then the other. If you are having the same issue with both sticks
being the same type and speed (they don't need to be made by the same
company) then check the mainboard manufacturers site out for a bios upgrade
of some other work around. they should have a fix of some kind for it.
