Hello All..
I am using XP Professional, SP2, V. 2002..
While i was working on the computer, my computer re-started by it self, and
after the restart I noticed the computer is very slow, when I checked the
memory it shows I only have 128 MB of RAM, and my computer has 256 MB, I dont
know where the other 128 MB gone!
I checked using the BIOS its shows that I have 256 MB of RAM, but when I
start the Windows and check the RAM's the windows shows me only 128 MB..

So, please can any body tell me how to fix this problem!

Thanks in Advance :)

Assuming the PC has no virus or malware it sounds like one of the RAM chips
is gone. The hard way of verification of which one is defective is of course
to pull one at a time and watch the behaviour of next booting.

A "soft" step is to provide the "Bluescreen" tool, which you may not have
done, to disable automatic restart on system failure, and wait for the next
restart, if so is likely to happen. This will
give information about the cause of failure. Right click on the
My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Another "soft" step is to follow advice on checking the RAM, given by Ron
Martell with reference to post Subject: Re: registry start-up trouble Windows

Try running Memtest86+, this runs from a boot disk and should eliminate or
confirm if your ram is bad.
Let it run for as long as you can, 2,4,6,8 or more hours, if no errors by
then your ram is OK.

Boot the computer and open Control Panel - System (General tab). In
the Computer: (bottom) section of the Window it will show you how much
RAM Windows is detecting.

if that only shows 128 mb then use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to
the BOOT.INI tab. Click on the "Advanced Options..." button and
ensure that the checkbox for /MAXMEM= is not selected and that the
value box for that line is clear.

Good luck
