Hi,

I have been trying to install Windows XP on my computer but strange that no
other os installs on my old pc apart from windows 98. I tested everything
but found no error.

I have finally decided to upgrade my bios. I guess there is something to do
with the bios version. But now, I don't know where will I get the update. I
am sending you the bios report collect from a software called "BIOS Agent
Version 3.44" Please someone check if I can install xp with this bios
version and if not then please direct me to the appropriate link from where
I can download the latest bios.
BIOS REPORT
BIOS Date: 04/12/02
BIOS Type: Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID: 04/12/2002-i810-ITE8712-6A69ML1FC
OEM Sign-On: 6B810ECD+ Ver:1.0 "Vintron"
Chipset: Intel Whitney 82810E rev 3
Superio: Unknown
OS: Win98
CPU: VIA C3 800 Mhz MAX: 1500 Mhz
BIOS ROM In Socket: Yes
BIOS ROM Size: 256K
Memory Installed: 384 MB
Memory Maximum: 1536 MB
Memory Slot 01: 128 MB
Memory Slot 02: 128 MB
Memory Slot 03: 128 MB

P.S. in the last section about memory it shows three slots where as my
motherboard has only two slots containing 128 MB ram on each slot making it
256MB ram altogether.

Thanking you

You will need to go to the motherboard mftr.'s website for a BIOS
update. You can use something like Belarc Advisor or Aida32 to find out
the make/model of your motherboard if you don't know it.

Give some serious consideration as to whether you should upgrade this
machine to XP. XP will run, but if you there is no BIOS update
available you would be better off just replacing the machine.

http://www.aumha.org/free.htm - Aida32 (hosted on Jim Eshelman's site)

If you flash your BIOS with an update not made specifically for your
particular motherboard, there is a very good chance you've just made
your computer into a doorstop.

Go to the motherboard manufacturer's site and check there. But you need to
ask yourself if it is worth upgrading this board or better to buy a new
one.

See:

http://www.wimsbios.com/

The "6A69M" part of the BIOS string indicates that it's an Intel 810 board,
as you already knew.

The manufacturer code "L1" is supposed to correspond to "Lucky Star",

http://www.lucky-star.com.tw/

but the domain name appears to no longer be registered. I'd guess that
"Lucky Star" may be gone.

A little Googling found:

http://www.rom.by/bios/LS/

but the BIOS there for your board appears to be older than the one that you
have Rev. B0, dated 1/17/01). If it helps, it appears that your board's
model is 6M810ECD.

Good luck.
