Where did my mail go?

I made a mistake. I used detect and repair andto set my
office program to the default settings, not knowing that
it would erase all my contacts and existing mail. They
must be backed up somewhere, but I have no idea how to
recover them.

First, I would search your hard drive for .pst files on your drive. When
doing so, you want to be sure and check the box to search hidden folders
under Advanced Search Options. Typically you will find one outlook.pst file
and one archive.pst file. In your case, you hope to find multiple .pst
files other than archive.pst. If there is, you can first open the file in
Outlook to confirm it is the file you want to import from and if it is, then
import it.

To import contacts, email, etc. from a .pst file, follow the instructions
found at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;195717&Product=out2K.
Follow the instructions found in the bottom half of the page under How to
Import Items from an Old Personal Folders (.pst) file to the New File

Good Luck
