Where did my 2nd email identity go?

I'm using Vista for the first time. I set up my first email address in
Windows Mail, then I set up my second email address. I went to switch form
one to the other, but I can only get to the first email address. When I go to
"accounts" it says they are both there, but I cannot check the second email
address because Windows Mail has eliminated "identities," so how can I check
the email for the second email address and my other two email address that I
have yet to add? Please don't tell me that I have to create separate user
accounts for each of MY email addresses. I'm the only one that uses this
laptop. I have several email addresses for different purposes. It would be
inconvenient, not to mention ridiculous to have to switch every time I need
to check my email.

I guess if there is no good answer for my first question, my second question
is -- can uninstall Windows Mail and install Outlook Express with Vista?

Hello DustyArt,

If you click the arrow to the right of 'Send and Receive', you should see
all of your email accounts listed. Send and receive all will check all
accounts.

Go to Tools, Accounts, and via Properties for each account, make sure that
there is a check next to 'Include this account when sending or
synchronising'.

You can set up message rules to direct emails from each account to different
folders.

Thanks Jane, I would love for them to each be separate for a variety of
reasons. I really want them set up just as they were with Outlook Express.
There were so many other things they could have changed and improved upon,
instead they just made it less convenient.

If I remember correctly, Mozilla had an email program that was similar to
Outlook Express. Do you know if works well with Vista? I'd just as soon skip
Windows Mail, it's not very useful as it is for my purposes.

Thanks,
Dusty

Now that looks like it might just be worth the $14.95. Have you tried it?

Thanks,
Dusty

I don't use Windows Mail, so I haven't tried it.
But the author of the software, Steve Cochran, is well
known in the Microsoft forums, a good guy, helpful, and
very smart.

Thunderbird.
www.mozilla.com

Thunderbird is designed to be almost exactly like
Outlook Express. I've used v. 1.5 and installed it
for others. It works well. I haven't tried v. 2.
V. 2 of firefox is beginning to get bloated and
less user-friendly, so I'd be a bit suspicious of
Thunderbord v. 2.

According to the Mozilla site they support Win98 to
Vista but "recommend" XP... whatever that means.

Thanks for that info. Too bad Thunderbird becoming bloated. I don't know why
things that aren't broken are always being "fixed" which then makes them
broken. If they don't have a real Vista version I guess it's probably better
to avoid Thunderbird for the time being.

Thanks,
Dusty

It sounds like it's a program that would work and fill my needs plus get
help with it if needed. I think that software may end up being the solution.

Thanks!
Dusty

Thunderbird isn't "bloated", it's far superior to Windows Mail,
and still better than Windows Live Mail.

The best email client is Outlook, it's what I use.
But Thunderbird is a fine email client and a lot
better at handling newsgroups than WM or WLM.

* DustyArt:

Windows Live Mail is not "web-based", Windows
Live Hotmail is web-based. WLM is an email client
like Outlook Express... just not as good, yet. But, WLM
does allow you to check your Hotmail.

Thanks for clarifying that. It sounds interesting. What are it's short
comings as compared to OE?

Dusty

I have only tired Outlook once, quite briefly a long time ago. It had too
much "stuff" for lack of a better word, so I went back to basics, back to
OE. I have wondered about Thunderbird because I use Firefox instead of
Internet Explorer and it's a lot better in my opinion. Right now I have to
believe that just about anything is better than Windows Mail. It's a shame
too really, it's an easy, basic email client that would be fine for my
purposes if it simply allowed identities. I simply can't get over the fact
that they eliminated that very useful feature -- of all things to eliminate.

Thanks,
Dusty

It means they're smart enuf not to recommend Fista to anyone.

Cheers.

Do you use Linux? Everytime you "google", you're using Linux.

IMO, it doesn't handle newsgroups nearly
as well as it should. If you participate in several
groups and groups that have lots of posts, WLM
can choke up at times. Since it is still beta, there
are a few other bugs, too. It's okay and has a lot
of potential. I prefer Outlook for email and Thunderbird
for newsgroups.

Anything *is* better than Windows Mail.
Although, if you purchase Steve Cochran's
program, it may make WM bearable for you.
I don't like, I would never recommend it, and
Microsoft should be ashamed for ever releasing
it in such a terrible state. Microsoft has basically
admitted that it sucked, they've moved all development
to Windows Live Mail. In the process, they have caused
a lot of confusion. Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail,
Windows Live Mail (was Windows Live Mail Desktop),
Windows Live Hotmail ( was just Hotmail, then it was going
to be Windows Live Mail) ... that's a lot to keep up with.

Try Windows Live Mail, you may like it.
It is better than Windows Mail.

If not to your liking, give Thunderbird a workout.
Solid and dependable.

Good luck!

Take care,
