Note that if you need to change the protocol used, simple changes don't
work well. For this, you need to delete the old account and create a new
one with the correct protocol.

Making your server name the same as the protocol seldom works, either.
The correct server names depend on which email provider you are trying
to connect to.

Also, a few email providers insist on using the HTTP protocol (at least if
you don't pay extra). The Windows Mail program cannot handle the
HTTP protocol. The live mail provider (not to be confused with the
Windows Live Mail program, despite their similar names) is one of them.
If you want to use one of these email providers, you'll have to get a
different email program first which can handle the HTTP protocol, such
as the Windows Live Mail program.

You configure email accounts in Vista the same as you do in XP.
However, Windows Mail cannot access any webmail account, like most Yahoo and
Hotmail
accounts.
If you pay for the Plus accounts, then you are allowed to access the POP
servers.

To change the server names,

Windows Mail generally works well for most people, but you have to
enter the correct settings as specified by your email service provider.
If you get an error message, right-click on your error message, copy,
then paste it into a reply here.
We can't do much troubleshooting without the complete error message.
