Whene I delete something word re-formats paragraphs

G

Guest

I have a document with numbered headings, paragraphs, and numbered
paragraphs. Every time I try to delete something, the paragraphs get
reformatted. e.g. I have:

1.0 Main Header
Paragraph of text.
1.1 Sub header
More text
--------Page Break-----
2.0 Another main header

Every time I try to delete the page break, the '2.0 Another main header'
loses it's number. How can I stop this?

Thanks,

Richard.

This is because paragraph formatting "extends" across a manual page break.
Just reapply the appropriate numbered style to the paragraph.

It doesn't work like that. The 'Heading 1' format is still applied to teh
heading, but it has no numbering. If I click on the 'Numbering' button, it
indents the heading, but doesn't add any numbers.

Also, all other 'Heading 1' headings have their numbering removed!

If the numbering has actually been defined in the heading style, then
pressing Ctrl+Q should restore it. If not, then you need to modify the
style.

What I meant to say was that a page break, at least in versions prior to
Word 2007, has the same paragraph formatting as the following paragraph,
meaning that if it is inadvertently removed from one, it will also disappear
from the other. Apparently, this is not what happened in your document.

Still, reapplying the style should reset the paragraph to style (assuming
that the "Prompt to update style" option is cleared in the Word options),
similar to pressing Ctrl+Q, as suggested by Suzanne.

If resetting the paragraph properties does not help, make sure to set up
numbering correctly. Instructions can be found at
