When will email address auto-complete be fixed?

Does anyone have any idea on whether the auto-completion of e-mail addresses
will be fixed in Windows mail and Outlook 2007?

I should have to type in the email address and send it to have it look in my
contacts.

Currently, we are using Thunderbird, but my wife despises it, even though I
tell her she can go back to Windows Mail instead and lose the auto-complete
(or at least, lose the consistency of it working).

I think that I know what you mean above, that you have to send to an address
before it will auto complete the next time.

I have to say though that in all my years of using OE, that I never once
typed an address in to the To: line, what's the point if you have it in your
address book? I simply click the To: symbol on the new mail window and enter
a letter or two in the Find box and then add the address to the mail>ok.
Just as quick?
YMMV.

Steve,

Thanks for the response, but under the old OE, you just typed it in the To:
box and it would auto-complete for you or give you suggestions on
names/addresses that were close to what you were typing. Now, you have to
open up contacts and search that way. That's an extra step that didn't need
to be done before.

As for your stating "what's the point if it's in your address book", well,
that's what was so nice in OE. It would search for you and offer suggestions
or if there was only one match, it would complete it for you, just like all
the other e-mail clients do (Notes, Thunderbird, etc). For whatever reason,
Windows Mail decided to break this feature.

For many of us, this is a broken feature that works sporadically rather than
consistently and that is not acceptable.

I am beyond frustration with the sporadic operation of Windows Mail for the
auto completion function. It may work now and then doesn't work two emails
later. I am a long time user of Outlet Express and loved the ability to keep
multiple address lists so I could keep family, business, athletic club email
addresses separate. That appears to be gone. Windows mail is also much slower
in every function compared to my four year old XP notebook. At this point I
am ready to dump Vista off my new HP notebook with all the bells and whistles
and go back to XP Professional. Sure hope someone can give me good advise.

Windows Mail is much worse than Outlook Express. Does Microsoft look at
these forums. A fix is needed immediately, as email must be one of the most
used functions on a computer.
