Hi,

when I ping my own computer's netpios name, what does it mean? why It
doesn't show my IP address?

C:\Documents and Settings\Kasra>ping notebook

Pinging notebook.kasra.behbahani.net [::1] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from ::1: time<1ms
Reply from ::1: time<1ms

Ping statistics for ::1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

C:\Documents and Settings\Kasra>

on any other computer when I ping the netbios's name I can see it will reply
by showing my ip address, like this one:

D:\Documents and Settings\kasra>ping pc1

Pinging PC1.kasra.behbahani.net [192.168.177.1] with 32 bytes of data:

It is giving you the address - Jeremy in asking about IPV6 is referring to
"[::1]". I may be wrong but I think [::1] is equivalent to the usage of
127.0.0.1 (IVP4) to designate the "localhost".
