What's wrong with Windows Update

T

The Windows Update site has been extremely slow for the past two
weeks. Has anyone else experienced this? Is Microsoft working the
problem, if known?

I can't figure this out. I'm running three PCs, two XP Home PCs and
one Win2000 Pro PC. Sometimes the Microsoft Update page loads to what
seems to be in a normal period od seconds. Other times it has taken a
couple of minutes or fails to load. The machines are running IE6 on
two of the PCs and IE7 on one. Just doesn't make sence. Another note,
all the other Microsoft URLs from Microsoft.com are loading slowly
also. My ISP is Comcast.

Considering the fact that tens or hundreds of thousands of users have been
attempting to download Windows 7 Beta 1 since late last week, perhaps that
has something to do with the behavior you're seeing?

Have you tried shutting down virus programs, particularly scanning programs?

Lots of possibilities, most nothign to do with the MS site. Especially
with some of the weather lately, some backbones are suffereing.
It's also possible it's something on your own machine - are other
sites OK for speed? If some are, some not, it would make it very likely
it's a node problem or something else in the backbone such as excess
traffic because a different one is down, things like that.
