What's wrong with my USB memory stick / Windows XP???

I have a new 1gig OCZ Rally USB memory stick. It's not working properly and
I'm hoping for some help...

Plugged it into my Windows MCE 2005 PC earlier today. It installed fine and
I copied a number of files to it. When I was done, I ejected the drive.
Walked over to my main Windows XP Pro SP2 machine and plugged it in. LED on
the drive lights up, Windows complains that the USB device is not recognized
and the LED goes off.

So, I pull the drive out, go back to my MCE 2005 PC and plug it back in. LED
lights up, Windows complains that it's not recognized, LED goes out. The
drive worked fine here 5 minutes earlier. In device manager on both PC's it
just shows up under USB Controllers as an Unknown device.

So, I'm writing an RMA message to OCZ as the drive has obviously failed...
but before I hit SEND, I take the drive upstairs and stick it into my old
laptop with 1.1 USB ports. Windows XP Pro recognizes and installs the drive
fine. All my previously copied files are there and I can move them back and
forth.

I bring the stick back to my PC - no luck. The MCE machine - no luck.

So, the drive DOES work, but not on these two machines...

WHAT is going ON?!?!?!

I think your Windows USB is screwed up somehow, try
rebooting the systems it failed on (without the memory stick
plugged in), and then retry it.

Do you have other USB memory sticks (or similar, is it just
a typical "thumbdrive" type of device?) you can try to see
if they exhibit same problem?

I've got a 32MB Gateway memory stick that works fine in all the computers.

Next step is to remove the USB hub in device mangler and reboot.

Well... I uninstalled the USB controllers and while rebooting changed my
BIOS settings to 1.1 only.

After that, the memory stick worked fine.

Rebooted and put the USB ports back to 2.0 and now it doesn't work again!!!
