What's Up with AVG?

My AVG free version 7.0 keeps telling me I have to reboot to complete an
update. I do so, and it continues to tell me I need to reboot. I downloaded the
latest build (296) and did a clean install, but it still has the same problem
-- and won't let me get any further updates.
Just before the disaster, it did find a Trojan and removed it. Can these
malicious programs also disable the AV program?

Haven't had that happen, tho I'm not terribly impressed with the new
version.

Might suggest that you uninstall and reinstall just in case. Maybe even
download it again to be sure you have the latest version.

Have you checked their forums (must admit I haven't for your particular
difficulty)?
