OT: AVG crashing & popping up

Freeware Fanatic

I wonder if anyone else is having:

(a) AVG crash in the middle of scanning (then parts of Windows -- MMTASK in
particular -- begin to crash) -- this on one machine at the office on
the paid version;

(b) AVG block every application saying there's an unnamed backdoor trojan
it can't clean, heal or delete -- this on my home another machine with the
free version (ran Avast and found no trojan).

==== if you think you have a virus or trojan, you might start your
computer in safe mode then scan with AVg... it might be able to clean
it if it's not running (the trojan)========

If using XP turn off System Restore because AV programs don't clean this and
the virus/trojan is still there. When PC is clean turn it back on and set
new restore point.

In addition to Kenny's advice: This goes for Windows ME too. Also, if
your File System happens to be FAT - or FAT32 - get hold of a DOS (or
Windows 9x) boot disk with CD-support and a CD with F-Prot (with the
latest def. files) and scan the complete system with that program...

BTW: I use AVG myself, and haven't had this behavior running W2K here.

Ditto here with XP-SP1. I've used AVG for years without problems. Admittedly
the newer one is a little different, but I've had no problems with it on 98/SE/XP.
I may have something to do with what you have checked inside the program?
But then I've never had a problem with OE either except its occassional burps..
but no baddies of any kind. I'm not bragging, merely stating the facts. I've been
messing around with computers since 1986 and the internet since the '90's and
I've never had a virus on any of my machines. Luck? NO! Common sense!
If you engage in risky behavior you invite negative consequences, so don't whine!
(That's just a general statement and isn't directed at anyone in particular, once
again, just simple facts).
