What's this mean?? A stuffed driver?

Hi all,

I tried deleting the SMBus controller and the Audio controller, restarted to
install them and after beginning installation of Realtek Audio Drivers I got
the following blue screen of death:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage
to your computer.

If this is your first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in
the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for
driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove
or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced
Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xEEA32460, 0xF8989AA0, 0xF898979C) ***
*** portcls.sys - Address EEa3246D base at EEA32000, Datestamp 41107FB ***"

Any idea on how to fix this?

Any info appreciated

Thanx

On SAFE Mode -- be a persistent devil about pressing and *tapping* (repeat tapping) F8 Function Key at pc bootup.
If you miss the spot, keep using CTRL+ALT+DEL keys to reboot pc again, & repeat F8 Function key.

It is very possible a hardware device driver is causing this situation.

When you get back into XP, pick "Help and Support" from menu. In its search box, type "PC Health". Choose "Get information about your computer". Pick view advanced system information. Then pick view the error log.
Look for "error event" --- by date and time -- closest to your last problem. Also see if it mentions an "exe" or "dll" or such.

If you have a SoundBlaster Live Value sound card, or even a joystick, do take a look at this MS Article - 321637
You receive a "serious error" or a "STOP: 0x0000007E" error message in Windows XP

The SMBUS controller drivers are a part of the Mainboard Drivers.
