0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
(Click to consult the online MSDN article.)
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler didn’t catch.
These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a
driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

Has the error occurred more than once?

Are there important data files not backed up you need to recover. If yes
you need to do that first.

What is the computer make and model? When was the computer purchased
new? Do you have access to a second computer? What make and model?

What do you have by way of a Windows XP CD?

What are the anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements on the computer?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not

This may be a "red herring" but here's a list of Remote Control software.

1st DameWare NT Utilities 24%
2nd Radmin 3.0 Remote Control 18%
3rd AdminMagic 9%
4th RemotelyAnywhere 8%
5th Desktop Authority 6%
6th GoverLAN 4%
6th Net Control 2 4%
6th NetSupport Manager 4%

Is the computer yours or one provided by your employers for your use?
Remote Control software can be used to provide support and users
probably often do not know it is on the computer.

Hope this helps.
