What would You Do? (DDR RAM)

I have one stick of 512MB DDR333 PC 2700 in my
machine, and want to get another stick of 512MB. My
friend will trade me his for my old Video card that I
don't need anymore but the speed
of his ram is 512MB DDR PC 2100. I know that if i use
this stick with my current one then they will both run at
PC 2100 instead of PC 2700, but I don't really know what
that means performacewise. Assuming that they work
together. How would this stick effect my computers
performance VS a second stick that matches the
one I have? Would this be a smart move to save myself some
cash? If not I will go to fry's and drop a hundred on a
new one that matches the stick I already have but I'd
rather not if this one will increase me speed.

Any advice is appreciated!

Biggest worry is if the motherboard will even work with it. I wouldn't
try unless the "deal" is reversable.

Not true, absolutely not true.. They will run, or try to run, at whatever
speed your RAM is set to run at.

What motherboard do you have? What is the FSB set to? Can you set the memory
clock seperate from the FSB? Can you set the memory clock at all, or is it
locked by SPD?

There's a lot of unanswered questions here and a lot of missing information.

Tell us about your motherboard ... what make, revision, and if BIOS is set
todefault or have you made any customizations and if so, what are the
customizations.

With the above information, we can offer you a more comprehensive solution.

Good deal? It's like this, plug it in, fiddle with the settings and get
it working, try the software out that you use, notice any objectionable
speed difference? Make your decision as to whether to accept the trade.
