Question about DDR RAM?

I have one stick of 512MB DDR333 PC 2700 in my
machine, and want to get another stick of 512MB. My
friend will sell me his for very cheap ($20) but the speed
of the ram is 512MB DDR PC 2100. Will these two stick
most likley work together? How would this stick effect my
computers performance VS a second stick that matches the
one I have? Would this be a smart move? $20 VS $100? If
not I will go to fry's and drop a hundred on a new one
that matches the stick I already have.

Any advice is appreciated!

It may work, but your Ram will only run at the lower speed. Plus, other
posts in these newsgroups have indicated that XP does not like mismatched
RAM. I would recommend two sticks of the same speed and brand.
www.newegg.com has some good prices on RAM.

Depending on your motherboard, the PC2700 may not be running at 166MHz.
Adding PC2100 will slow both modules to 133MHz, which will likely work, but
it does decrease memory bandwidth. For many, if not most users, 512MB of RAM
is sufficient for most applications.
