Adding Memory (RAM)?

I want to add more memory to my computer but have a question about
compatibility (mixing memory types). The computer has three DDR banks rated
for 266/333/400 MHz with a max of one meg per bank. I currently have two of
the banks filled with 256mb of PC2100 (266) sticks. I want to put a 512 mb
stick in the third bank. My question is: Can I put a 512mb PC2700 or 3200
stick in the third bank or do I have to stay with the PC2100, since the first
two banks are using the 266MHz sticks. The motherboard indicates that it is
compatible with PC 2100, 2700, 3200 memory but I don't know if you can mix

Strictly speaking, it should be possible.. however, memory can have a mind
of its own..

Go to www.crucial.com to find memory type for your computer.. when you get
the stick, you may have to move the other two around in order that it all
works..

Memory always runs at the speed of the lowest spec stick, but that should
not really be a problem..

In theory, Yes! You can mix the different speeds of memory. However, it is
NEVER recommended!! Differnet speeds of RAM may cause more Windows problems
than RAM with all the same speeds. Always use the same type of RAM (speeds,
CS, parity/non-parity etc..) so as to avoid problems!

The ONLY people that can answer that question with any authority are the
motherboard manufacturers tech support folks. The other option is
trial and error.

Thank you. That's was my guess but I wasn't sure. To be on the safe side I
think I'll take your advice and stick to the same type RAM. Mack
