What version of XP pro do I have?

Thanks to all those who replied to my last post, good advice well heeded.

Next question.

In my laptop control panel it says I have Windows XP pro 2002 SP2

Why is it that when my laptop boots up it displays the Windows XP logo NOT
the Windows XP professional logo?

My work PC shows the Pro logo when it boots up, the control panel on this PC
shows the same only SP1.

It is far from a major issue, but it is annoying.

Can anyone solve this?

Yeah, stop being so anal, as what screen displays at boot has NOTHING to
do the how your OS actually works.

MS changed the boot screen for SP2, so it is the same no matter what
edition of XP you use.

MS did it to f*%k with you anal types, and I aplaud them for it.

A part of service pack 2 was to streamline boot screens so they are all the
same whether it be Home, Professional or Media Centre.
The new boot screens just say Windows XP. Any XP machine that doesn't have
SP2 will still say Home/Pro/MCE on boot up.

Hope this Helps,

Simon.

SP2 removes the words Professional and Home from the splash screen and
changes the color of the slide bar with Home.

ROFL! I didn't say petty. I think you are anal, and I always reply to
those that show it in public.

Because you have WinXP SP2. Service Pack 2 removed the edition (Home
vs. Pro) from the logo.

My work PC shows the Pro logo when it boots up, the control panel on this PC
shows the same only SP1.

It is far from a major issue, but it is annoying.

I don't see how it can possibly be annoying, frankly.

Can anyone solve this?

Simply uninstall Service Pack 2, if a minor cosmetic change is so
important to you.

LOL! I'm not the one that was fretting needlessly over a boot screen.

Oh, so when something changes on your computer, you don't worry about
it? Not every body is a techie, Kurt.

A silly thing like the boot screen of Windows, no I didn't worry about
it the first time I saw it was changed, which was the first boot after
installing SP2. I used my common sense, not my tech knowledge, to
figure it out.

Thought process was:

Hey, the boot screen has changed.

Wow, MS must have changed it with SP2.

Yawn, scratch balls, and wait for desktop to load.

Maybe because Wintards are forced to reboot their toy operating system so

Actually, only the completely computer illiterate, such as yourself,
would ever have any need to reboot a properly maintained Windows machine.

LOL! I guess you don't count installing security updates as part of a
properly maintained Windows machine.
