What to with Switch Off, to make it stop starting.

I downloaded and installed Airytec SwitchOff, a really nice, free
program that will turn your computer off, any of the options, after
the number of minutes and hours you tell it, or at a set time, or at a
countdown time you choose.

Unfortunately, it has lots of options but not the option to stop
running. It starts every time I start windows, and I only want to use
it maybe once every 6 months at most.

I tracked it down via MSINFO32 / Startup Programs and it gave me its
startup line in the registry, in the HKU part.

I found it there and its value is
'"D:\Programs\SwitchOff\swoff.exe" -auto'

I want to change it but I'm not sure how.

Should I just remove -auto ? The shortcut doesn't use that option.

Or should I get rid of the whole entry, which is named "Airytec
Switch Off"? I know I should, but I'm scared to do that, I don't know
for sure why, since I can still start the program anytime I want from
the Start/All Programs list, or from the shortcut I made for it, and
if I want the autostart back, I can reinstall it. (I could export the
entry before I delete it, but I know I'll forget where I put it. :) )

Thanks.

P.S. In win98, when one used MSCONFIG to uncheck and stop loading a
startup program named in the registry under a run key (key?), it put
the entry under run- , but run- and those entries don't seem to exist
anymore. What does happen to registry entries I uncheck in MSconfig.
They must be stored somewhere.

P.S. 2 BTW, google has no method to maximize msconfig, like one could
in win98. Do you guys have one? (If I could have maximized it, I
wouldn't have to have gone to msinfo32.)

Thanks a lot.

What to DO with Switch Off, to make it stop starting.

And btw, once it starts along with windows, it also doesn't have a way
to stop it! I have to use the process tab of Task Manager.

Use the Startup tab in msconfig.exe to disable the item.

Disabling a startup item in msconfig moves it out of the Run key to
msconfig's own storage key. That way, when you want to reenable the
item, it just moves it back. As I recall, msconfig's store for disabled
items is under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSconfig\
startupfolder
startupreg

No need to maximize the window for msconfig. Just drag the handles
alongside the column headers if you want to length the columns and then
scroll left-right to see it all.

Even if the task doesn't have its own Exit function, you could always
kill it using Task Manager, or by running "taskkill <filename>". Run
"taskkill /?" in a command shell to get help on it.

Thanks. It wasn't there Monday night after I installed it, and it
wasn't there Tuesday, but it showed up when I looked about 2:30 this
morning. I realize just now that I hibernated the computer Monday
night, so that's why nothing had changed.

Thanks. I'm glad to know where they are, even if, I suppose, I could
just check them again.

If you say so.

Thanks. I'll try that.
