Help!
Win2000 boots and loads as it should except the logon box never displays,
and I cannot log on.. This computer is part of a three computer network and
shared resourses on the problem computer can still be accessed from the
other two, which confirms that the operating system is indeed working. The
operating system is at the current level of updates as of 5/24/04.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Allan

It depends if you are in a Domain (or on a Domain controller) or not. If not go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Local Security | Local Policies | Security Options |

Disable CTRL-ALT-DEL requirement for logon - Local Setting Disabled. If you are in a Domain (or on a Domain Controller) then the same thing must be done in Domain Security Policy (Domain Controller Security Policy).

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I cannot access the Start menu,
because I cannot log on. The computer appears to boot 100%; but because it
never gives me a logon box, I cannot log on. If you were to reboot your
computer and never actually log on, that is the state of my computer, since
the dialog box never appears, I cannot log on.
Any other suggestions you may have are welcome.

Thanks

W2k can be set up to always log on as a specific user, I haven't used it
recently so I forget if the log on box shows then or not, that may be one
cause.

What do you get when you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del? In an account, that should
give you a dialog where you can select to log off, restart, etc. But be
prepared that it may actually reboot the computer....

What does that give you?

Ctl-alt-delete does nothing that I can tell. I have also tried entering my
password in case Windows would accept the data even if a dialog box was not
displayed, but no luck.
Hopefully, this additonal info will be helpful to you. Thank you very much
for your interest and help.

Thanks,

If it were happening here, I would start breaking into the boot up process to
see where control is lost. Can you boot into safe mode? Can you log there?
etc.

Unfortunately, possibly like you, I am just a user and not very experienced at
troubleshooting WIndows boot up problems....
