A screen comes up 'Press any key to boot from CD' If you miss that it will
try to boot from the HD.

What kind of laptop do you have? If you can not boot from a cd how did 98
get on there?

I do not know what to say, if it will not boot from the CD you are out of
luck. One more try is the cd rom in place of where the floppy was?

Yes i know, but if it is also set to boot from floppy it will not boot from
the cd.

i just upgraded to XP from 98 on an older laptop which
doesnt have a floppy drive. i managed to copy a boot
disk to a CD and using that. in the cmos, i set the boot
order to be from CD-ROM but for some reason it will not
boot from it. i even tried doing it from both of the
windows CDs. isnt there a key that you hold down when
the computer is loading to force it to boot from the cd
drive?

the details of the problem im having is that its going
into XP for the first time after installing it. it
always get to the blue xp screen and for some reason
says "setup is being restarted". then it goes to an all
blue screen getting the error "the application has failed
to start because winserv was not found". any help would
be great!

i never get that option, how do i get that option of
booting from the CD to come up?

yes i do but my problem is i cant get to any kind of
prompt to do anything. i can hit F2 to go to the setup
where safemode and all those otehr options are but have
tried them all and it still wants to go to that same
error. isnt there a key you can hold down to force it to
boot from the cd drive?

That is a function of the computers bios. The settings are therein!

the cd drive does not come out. the floppy drive plugs
into the parallel port but since installing xp, i cant
get the drive to work anymore. aparently i need to
reinstall the driver for it which i cant do because i
cant even get into windows or a dos prompt
