What key combination boots into safe mode?

Greetings,

I know you can boot in safe mode via msconfig, and that booting in safe mode
otherwise depends on keystrokes entered at start up time and which vary from
machine to machine.

Unfortunately, I just restored a PC from Backups and forgot my administrator
and user passwords at the time of the backup. What a goof... Anyway, I am now
forced to boot in safe mode via keystrokes and was wondering if anyone knows
what they would be for a:

HP Pavilion Notebook ZE4230 running Windows XP Service Pack 3

I have tried unsuccessfully, all the F keys and

CTRL+ALT+INS
CTRL+ALT+S
ESC

etc.

Any clues would be appreciated. I don`t remember what the BIOS is
unfortunately.

Thank you and happy holidays.

safemode would also
require admin password
if one was utilized for
normal mode.

in any case, holding down
the f8 key immediately after
the memory testing is done
upon power up, will get you
the special boot menu.

There is only one key combination to enter Safe Mode and that is to keep
tapping the F8 key as your PC boots. It doesn't matter what machine you have
the procedure is exactly the same for all.

F8 at system startup - personally io tell people to turn on their machine
and start pressing F8 once per second until the boot menu appears...

Then you can choose "Safe Mode".
