I want to name files for my comp class properly so how do I end their names
i.e. doc or what?

Word will automatically add the .doc extension to whatever name you give the
file. Whether you see the extension or not depends on your Windows folder
settings.

If you are using Word - and this is a Word group so presumably you are -
then Word will name its files correctly without any additional help from you
(as will most other applications). You can see better what is going on if
you set Windows Explorer to display the extensions of known file types and
to display hidden files.
