What is the problem

My main desktop has got windows XP but I have got hold of another desktop
which has also got Windows XP but it came with a copy of Vista Home Premium
which was never installed. My question is how long should it take to install
because when I started to install it a window poped up saying it would take
up to 6 hours said it would take up to 6 hours to install, Can anyone tell
me if that is right?

It depends on the speed of your machine, but if it really takes 6 hours to
install, I'd hate to see how slow it would run.
Unless you have 2gHz or better single core CPU or a dual core, and 1GB or
more RAM, plus a 256MB or better video card, I doubt you'll be happy with
Vista's performance.
It may install, it may run, but having good hardware is the key to Vista
having any usability.

An in place upgrade can take a long time. 6 hours estimate sounds about
right. A fresh install is closer to half an hour to install.

Vista usually takes about 35 to 45 mins to install on modern hardware such
as yours. Well thats how long it took to install on the following specs:

3.2 GHz P4
2.6 GBs of RAM
nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128 MB AGP
